What They Say:
Avid bookworm and college student Motosu Urano ends up dying in an unforeseen accident. This came right after the news that she would finally be able to work as a librarian like she had always dreamed of. When she regains consciousness. She was reborn as Myne, the daughter of a poor soldier. She was in the town of Ehrenfest, which has a harsh class system. But as long as she had books, she really didn’t need anything else. However, books were scarce and belonged only to the nobles. But that doesn’t stop her, so she makes a decision … “If there aren’t any books, I’ll just create some.”
Content (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
After receiving the mysterious message from Benno, Myne is still confused as to why the merchant would suddenly request she and Lutz come to Gilberta Company for lunch, and the troubles compound as to not knowing where they are to meet. However after asking Otto, he soon clears up the bewilderment by adding even more amazing facts: the location happens to be the first floor of the building where he lives, and so after rearranging the facts Urano soon concludes their benefactor is the one who didn’t want to be separated from his sister … meaning Benno is Otto’s brother in law. And so by the next afternoon the pair is off to see their prospective teacher, and while Lutz is more excited by the deliciousness of the meal, Myne is still concerned by the short notice of this gathering. They soon learn the storefront is very neat and clean, with very little merchandise on display and the clerks are well versed in sales with customers being catered as being either the wealthy or nobility.
Once they finish lunch, the gruff Benno is anxious to begin but Myne is immediately worried by his opening salvo of acquisitions by which he questions why she asked Otto for nails in exchange for her Simple All-In-One Shampoo, only to be countered by her not knowing the man at the time. After this concern is straightened out, the merchant then informs them he knows of Lutz asking lumberers about soft woods and proposes he be allowed to fund their endeavor – by selling the recipe for the magical formula which makes hair shiny as collateral for his investment. However as her friend looks on in ignorance as to what is happening, the two parties agree with Benno supplying everything they need for making the revolutionary product, even before they become his apprentices. It is then when his assistant Mark comes in to draw up the agreement with a special ritual called Contract Magic, a form in which Gilberta Company will be the only distributor of the plant based paper, but with two stipulations: Urano reserves the right to produce the paper and Lutz will have exclusive rights to sell it. With their paperwork concluded, the two leave to go home, but her friend immediately becomes concerned as to this person who manipulated their talks … is she Myne or someone else?
In Summary:
As Urano finally overcomes a major hurdle for making paper, the problem we always knew would be revealed rears its ugly head as to people questioning who she really is – what with all the amazing inventions from a little girl who is the child of a poor soldier. It makes one question what took people so long to realize she might not be the same person they once knew, and yet they strangely accepted these discoveries and her knowledge as commonplace, even though almost a year ago Myne did not know how to read or write. With the insight of Lutz and their connection becoming closer, you had to worry as to when the truth of her former life would be uncovered and if it will link to the opening scene from the first episode of the High Priest drugging the child and looking into her memories. Will this clever girl find some other way to explain her insight so that we may continue in these adventures … or is this the end of her isolation and the story will lead into more delight in this foreign world?
