‘Umbrella Academy’ Developer Boards Disney+ ‘Moon Knight’ Series

2 min read

The reveal in August that Marvel Studios will be bringing a Moon Knight series to the Disney+ service was one of the bigger pieces of news that got me excited. We’ve got time before things appear with it but the early stages of pre-production are getting underway with staffing. Marvel Studios has now revealed that Jeremy Slater has boarded the project as the showrunner for it. While Slater had a hand in the 2015 Fantastic Four film script as a co-writer and was the writer on Death Note for Netflix, he most recently served as the developer for Umbrella Academy and wrote the script for the pilot episode, shaping the run going forward.

The character has a complicated history but check out the concept of the 2016 series to get an idea of a possible avenue to explore to bring it to life.

Plot concept: For years, Marc Spector has defended New York City as the masked vigilante Moon Knight. Calling upon the powers of the ancient Egyptian God Khonshu, he has kept the city safe from street gangs and supernatural forces alike. Or has he? Waking up in an insane asylum will shake anyone’s confidence. But it can’t be true, can it? His mind is full of identities and he no longer knows which is real. His thoughts are clouded and he has no idea what to believe. If he calls to Khonshu, he believes he will receive an answer. But is this a sign he still clings to his sanity, or has it slipped from him completely?
