Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
The previous volume ended with a shocking discovery. A second Astra ship and a cryogenically sleeping woman from Earth who has been asleep for 112 years!
The second Astra ship was a miracle and actually saved their lives with their Astra being too damaged to fly. But this new character is in for the shock of her life when she learns that she has been asleep for over a century. She could also prove to be just as dangerous as the hidden assassin. After all, if your crew was killed and you awoke to a human race that you didn’t know and nothing to return to, you might crack under the pressure and threaten the safety of the whole ship!
Assuming this sleeping beauty can keep it together and not threaten the rest of the crew, they still have to survive one more planet refueling stop before they can start their final leg of their trip home. The assassin is still among them, and no one knows if that person has changed their mind or still plans to sabotage the ship and kill them all. But, there may be hope as Kanata spends his free time running through their first encounter with the orb that sent them into space. He runs the memory over and over in his head in an attempt to figure out who the secret assassin could be. But he just can’t remember every detail from that chaotic moment. Luckily for him, Aries has a photographic memory. But, was she looking the right direction at the right time back on that planet?
Ultimately, the killer will be revealed. But will Kanata get the jump on the killer and save his crew or will the Astra be doomed?
I’m impressed with this author’s ability to keep me guessing until the very end of the series in this whodunnit space odyssey. It was simple to eliminate half of the characters fairly early on, but that still left four characters that all had the opportunity to be the hidden assassin. Each of these characters could have easily been the one to sabotage various aspects of their ship and overall travels. However, even by the final reveal scene, I still thought the killer could have been any one of the boys.
Overall a fun space adventure that was well told and plenty entertaining. Plus, at only 5 volumes, Astra is an easy time investment and well worth it. Highly recommended manga series.
