‘Joker’ Retakes The Box Office As New Films Falter

2 min read

The month of October wraps up with this new rundown at the box office, though we have a few more days in which some films will add a bit more coin heading into Halloween.

It’s little surprise that after the debuts the weekend prior that Joker would end up back on top, scraping by really but still, as the newly released films with little promotion struggled to find an audience. Joker added just under $19 million to bring its domestic total up to $277.5 million since its debut at the start of the month. It’s still on a whopping 3,936 screens which certainly helps.

Of the new films that landed, Countdown brought some modern horror through cellphones to the genre but hit 5th place with a $9 million take.

The other new film was Black and Blue which landed in sixth for Sony and brought in $8.3 million.

Expansions are welcome and The Lighthouse moved up with a $3 million take in 586 screens building on the about $500,000 it had made in limited screenings. The Current War: Director’s Cut debuted in 9th with a $2.7 million take in 1,000 screens. And good news for Parasite fans, it did $1.8 million in just 129 screens for the best average of $14,107.

Next week brings us Terminator: Dark Fate from Paramount Pictures while Focus Features has Harriet going wide. Warner Bros. has a new wide release with Motherless Brooklyn and Entertainment Studios has a wide animated release with Arctic Dogs. On the limited side, iDreamMachine has Inside Game while Abramorama has The Portal documentary.
