Matt Reeves ‘The Batman’ Finds Its Riddler

2 min read

Work continues on the untitled Batman film is set to land on June 25th, 2021 with Matt Reeves still attached as the writer and director for it – which he signed on for back toward the beginning of 2017. The latest piece of casting information has come in, first with it revealed that Jonah Hill has stepped away from playing the Pegnuin. That was then followed up with Paul Dano joining the production to take on the role of The Ridder. Dano has a strong run of more independent and smaller films over the years such as Love and Mercy, Prisoners, 12 Years a Slave, There Will Be Blood, Youth and Okja.

With Robert Pattinson having been brought on to take on the title role previously, recent chatter has included Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman in the film.

There have been a lot of bits about how this would focus on a younger Bruce Wayne and Batman, being more of a noir adventure, and with Ben Affleck struggling with the role in a number of ways – from being the original director for it to publically talking about wanting to move on after the four films he did in the role – it was something that just felt like a matter of time. And with Warner Bros. seemingly moving to a looser and less connected series of films, this helps in separating it from the Zack Snyder films to a good degree.

No story points have been revealed at this point but it was made clear that while Reeves is a huge fan of the Batman: Year One comics from Frank Miller, his film will not be adapting that.
