After a cute, light, but mostly nonsensical first series a few years ago, Bananya is back with a new season. This season opens with us out in the wild at the base of a mountain where we see Bananya arrive from the tree, along with all the others. It’s a cute opening and a change from the house we first met them during the prior series. Here, it’s out in the wild and that offers a lot of possibilities. With the mountain going off like a volcano for a minute, we get stars falling to the countryside and that has them discovering gifts within it, such as glasses with a fake mustache which everyone finds absolutely hilarious.

And thus we see Bananya humor.

In Summary:
With the opening episode setting us up on a small planet that looks like a cat head, Bananya and the Curious Bunch looks like it won’t try to replicate what it did with the first series. And that’s a smart move, I think, as it eliminates the repetition a bit but allows it to be explored again in a new setting with possibly different results. This isn’t a series where there’s deep thought but you have to grade it by the cuteness. And it is cute as the creatures are adorable and seeing them do things and laugh is what’s going to be the focus. It’s not high art but it’s art to watch while high.

Grade: C+
