We learned back in December 2018 that TOHO is on board to distribute the next film from Masaaki Yuasa with Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara. The film translates as Ride Your Wave and is scheduled this month for screening as part of the Scotland Loves Anime film festival. Anime Limited has now brought out an English-subtitled trailer for the film that only serves to raise more interest in the project.

Yuasa’s directing based on the screenplay from Reiko Yoshida and the film is set for a June 21st, 2019 debut in Japan. No international distribution has been set for it yet – though his last two films were brought over by GKIDS and the interest in anime films is pretty strong these days.

Ryota Katayose will play Minato Hinageshi while Rina Kawaei will play Hinako Mikaimizu. This is Katayose’s first acting role but he comes from GENERATIONS from EXILE so there’s definitely some natural performer there.

Check out the official site and Twitter.

Plot Concept: Upon entering university, Hinako moves to a coastal town. She loves surfing, and when she’s on the waves she’s fearless, but still feels uncertain about her future. When a fire wreaks havoc in the town, Hinako encounters young firefighter Minato. As they surf and spend more time together, Hinako feels drawn to someone like Minato who devotes himself to helping other people. Hinako also holds a special place in Minato’s heart.
