‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Disney+ Series Adds Director

2 min read

The end of August saw the announcement from LucasFilm that a Disney+ series is in the works for Obi-Wan Kenobi with Ewan McGregor set to reprise his role following his turn in the prequel trilogy. While things are coming together on it, a new detail has surfaced that’s definitely welcome. Deborah Chow has joined the series as a director for it – though it’s unclear if she’s directing the entire undetermined-length run or just specific episodes. Regardless, Chow is a strong choice as she’s been working on The Mandalorian and has credits that include work on Jessica JonesMr. Robot, and Better Call Saul.

“We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga,” Kennedy said. “Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”

Chow will serve as an executive producer on it, as is custom for those that direct the first episode of any series/pilot, along with Kathleen Kennedy and Ewan McGregor. Series writer Hossein Amini does as well as Tracey Seaward, and John Swartz. Jason McGatlin, Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President for Production, will serve as co-producer.

The actor received lots of acclaim for stepping into the younger version of the Alec Guinness role for the prequel trilogy and he has said on multiple occasions that he’d easily return for more and even provided a whisper line in the current film trilogy.

There are no details about what the series would be about but there are plenty of options as seen through the comics in that they can explore more of the Clone Wars era stories and mingle things within his time on Tattooine after Revenge of the Sith.

In addition to The Mandalorian, Disney+ has a Rogue One character series coming focusing on Diego Luna’s character along with Alan Tudyk reprising his role of Cassian Andor and K-2SO respectively. Another animated season of Clone Wars is also in the works.
