A new original anime production is in the works for the fall 2019 season with Tokunana the October 6th, 2019 debut. Funimation has now confirmed their pickup of the series for simulcast with it set for the same day as Japan with the name Special 7: Special Crime Investigation Unit. A simuldub is also being produced with date and details to come later. Availability is set for the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
The series has Takayuki Kuriyama as the chief director and Harume Kosaka as the director working from the scripts by Yuichiro Higashide. Hiroya Iijima is adapting Nanane Chrono’s original character designs.
The Japanese cast includes Hiro Shimono as Seiji “Rookie” Nanatsuki, Kenjiro Tsuda as Shiori “Charisma” Ichinose, Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Kujaku “Analyzer” Nijō, Yuko Kaida as Akane “Samurai” Shikisai, Ari Ozawa as Bellemer “Ninja” Cinq, Kenji Nomura as Rokusuke “Sniper” Endō, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Sakon Zeroemon “Boss” Kiryūin, Hiroaki Hirata as Warlock, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Mysterious Man, and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Black Pearl.
The opening theme song is “Take On Fever” by OLCODEX while SCREEN mode is performing the ending theme song “One Wish” for it.

Plot Concept: Set in a different Tokyo on a different world than ours, the story follows Tokunana, a unit of assembled misfits in the Metropolitan Police Department. Tokunana battles against “Nine” — an organization committing crimes in their zealous worship of the dragons that once roamed the world.
