Tom Welling Will Also Play Superman In Upcoming ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ Crossover

Every time we hear something new about the event crossover at the end of this year that will spill into 2020 with the Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation/interpretation it just gets more exciting. Back in July we had learned that we’ll have at least two Superman versions in the event as Brandon Routh would be pulling double duty as both Ray Palmer as he’s played for years but also the Kingdom Come version of Superman – not the version he played in the 2000s film that he starred in.

That would be in addition to recently brought on Tyler Hoechlin who has played Superman in the crossover last year and a bit more to great effect.

Now, it looks like one more from the wishlist has been achieved as Tom Welling is set to reprise his role as Clark Kent from Smallville for the project. Admittedly, part of me wanted him to appear as Cain from Lucifer and for Tom Ellis to slide in and cause a little trouble with a cameo, but the touch upon Smallville is an absolute delight.

“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” Arrow co-creator and executive producer Marc Guggenheim said. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”

With Welling having only worn the costume for a few brief moments at the end of Smallville, it’s unclear whether he’ll be suited up proper here or play more of a Clark Kent role.

The event has three episodes rounding out the end of the year while the startup in January will finish it off with two more installments. Amid all of this we’ll also have the finale of Arrow.
