Originally serialized in Comic Bavel from the August 2019 installment, Secret Wife is a twenty-page story from creator Syuuen, who has about eighteen other stories on the service as of this writing. I enjoyed a couple of their previous works so I had kept an eye out for more and this one just caught my eye – even though it’s a second chapter and I haven’t read the first. Normally, I do look for stories in the twenty-page range but I was curious as to how Syuuen would handle something involving what looks like somewhat older or more mature characters than the usual teenage variety that we seem to get.
Syuuen works the story well so that there’s just enough recap mixed in so that you understand what came before. Miyuki, a happily married young wife, finds herself having a massive debt to repay thanks to her parents owing a lot of money and then running away. Or at least that may be the scam at work. To pay off the debt that’s been taken over by an adult video producer, she has to star in some porn. Her first one sold incredibly well because it came across as authentic. Naturally, the producer wants more but tells her it sold poorly so that she still has this huge debt looming over her. With her husband out of town on work a lot, she’s able to deal with this problem without him around but she’s really not keen on the idea. At least until her body betrays her by really craving the experiences that she ends up in. The whole parental debt thing is a familiar trope in manga but it’s employed well here.
Her gig this time has them sending her out to look for a virgin guy to help orally with his problem but she ends up finding two of them together and can’t get them separated. With a bit of “careful” planning b the crew, they’re set up in a mostly public area where she gets down to business quickly – which is about all they can handle by being virgins. The nervousness all around is fun but as it really gets underway, Miyuki gets completely into it and takes it a lot further for both of them so they’re no longer virgins. That has the producer really happy even though it wasn’t in the script because as he sees through the camera, she’s no longer even really acting and is just completely into it. Syuuen handles this really well as Miyuki is definitely appealing in her design since it’s an adult woman with curves and all and the kind of awkwardly into what’s happening element is captured beautifully as it goes further than anyone expected.
In Summary
I really like Syuuen’s designs and just the pace of everything as there’s a good bit of story in all of this to help give it more authenticity. I’m not keen on a couple of aspects of how things play out but as a fantasy piece, the whole blackmailed (knowingly or unknowingly) into things definitely has its fans and can make for some really erotic situations. The story plays well here and the action is definitely enjoyable. The big win is just a character like Miyuki as I love her design and the personality aspects feel different from what we usually get as well. It felt like a lot more enjoyable experience because of it all.
