Dai-Guard DVD CoverOne of my favorite series from days gone by is getting a new lease on life. Discotek Media picked up the old ADV Films series Dai-Guard back in December 2015 and they’ve done a bit of home video release work with it but little more. The series has now been added to the Crunchyroll library where the full twenty-six episode run is now available in either it’s dubbed or subtitled forms here.

Originally known as Chikyuu Bouei Kigyou Dai-Guard when it aired back in 1999 for two cour, the twenty-six episode series saw release a few years later on DVD in North America. The original production was directed by Seiji Mizushima at Xebec with Mitsuru Ishihara serving as the character designer and chief animation director.

Plot concept: Thirteen years after their sudden disappearance, an alien race known as the Heterodyne resurface without warning. To combat the Heterodyne, three office workers from the 21st Century Security Corporation operate Dai-Guard – a giant robot no longer regarded as an oversized paperweight. Unfortunately, Dai-Guard is somewhat obsolete and in disrepair. It’s a tough job, but salarymen can also save the world.
