“Enjoy the Breeze! Shiraito Falls”
What They Say:
Hakata Mentai! Pirikarako-chan is set in a mysterious shopping center in a town that is like but also not quite like Hakata. In this setting, a walleye pollack roe fairy named Pirikarakochan rushes about every day trying to ease the worries and solve the rumors of the other food fairies.
With a weak episode the last time around that didn’t land well my hopes were a bit higher for this one. Here, a manju contest is underway in the district with a big stage set for it and a popular comedian hosting the event and a prize of having the winner’s design used as the flavor officially for a variant. Naturally, Piri and everyone that we’re used to seeing get involved in their own concoction with a focus on Piri herself as she makes a pretty dark creation. It falls to the usual expectations, like Caviar-kun using a lot of caviar, but I’ll admit I liked the brief bit with Takiko and her dude just because of how it tweaks her secret admirer. It’s a pretty good competition overall but I was mostly amused by the mudskipper that oversaw the competition and how panicked they go about people being upset by not winning.
With the stakes a bit lower this time around and a more cohesive event underway, the show has a better feeling to it but is still kind of just there. It’s got its cute and silly moments and everyone gets to shine momentarily with their usual trait or gimmick but it handles things well by spreading it all out so it’s not focused just on Piri. And that does go a long way overall. While not a favorite episode it’s one that’s definitely harmless fun.
