Originally serialized in Comic X-Eros #79 from the August 2019 installment, Soap Recommendation is a twenty-page story from creator Yokoshima Nikki, marking their latest work on the service. With a dozen works on the service and having enjoyed two of their previous installments, this was an easy one to sample Nikki’s artwork is pretty much the big draw here with some great designs for both of our leads, though of course, it’s the woman who gets most of the attention considering what this is. I love the design work and the curves of it all and just the expressiveness. Nikki also gives us just enough story and character interaction to tie it all together, giving us enough of a scenario to work with instead of just dropping us into the action.
The story of a young romance here is nicely played as we’re introduced to Kana and Shige. The two have been dating for half a year and they’re very much in love with each other but it’s kept to a non-physical relationship – even to the point of not really holding hands. Kana’s fairly reserved and Shige is your standard male lead (at least at first). With Shige’s birthday coming up she asks him what he wants and he asks for a bar soap recommendation. This is lost in the translation thanks to different meanings of words and she hears it as a soap bar treatment and that sets her to doing a huge amount of research. I mean, a lot of research, so that she can properly take care of him and give him a birthday to remember. It’s actually quite cute in how it’s presented in a brief montage.
When it shifts to him being laid out on a mat while naked and her in a flimsy couple of pieces of clothing resembling maid material, it shifts gears to something wholly unexpected for him. First, I do like that Shige isn’t done up as a whisper-thin little guy. He’s got some presence to him. And you can easily imagine Kana doing just an erotic body massage/soaping up kind of thing. But as it progresses she ends up getting more and more into it and the flimsy clothing falls away. Kana’s delight in making him moan and pleasure him drives her to greater desires and the slippery nature of everything plays out really well. Shige is just dumbfounded by all of this and is kind of just going along with it and that’s fine as Kana, taking on the name Kanon the maid, runs the show for me. It’s the ultimate servicing of her love and she’s thrilled that everything she researched is paying off so well as he’s absolutely beside himself – even if he’s a little concerned about this change with her!
In Summary
The thing that won me over with this story is that it’s just absolutely presented as a fun thing. Kana is looking to make her boyfriend happy to be sure but she’s extremely happy with the results and is enjoying herself immensely as well. And it’s filled with a lot of smiles and grins on her part over it, which is always wonderful to see. Shige handles it as best as he can since it’s not what he expected but he has a minor role in this overall. Yokoshima Nikki’s artwork is fantastic as Kana looks great and the expressiveness is a big part of the allure. The actual scene itself dominates the chapter and there are a lot of fun layouts and visuals, all while avoiding the x-ray material that I don’t care for, and they make Shige look pretty good as well with something that feels more human than most male characters in these kinds of books. Definitely an easy recommendation.
