Discotek Media previously picked up an interesting title for rescue with the 2003 series Ultramaniac back in 2017. The show has had its home video release already and now it’s getting some expanded distribution with Amazon Prime streaming the series. The series is available with its English language dub where you Prime members can stream it for free or you can buy episodes for a buck each or the full season in SD for $20.99.
The show was originally licensed by Geneon Entertainment for release and they dubbed it with DVDs brought out in 2005. Viz Media brought it out for streaming a few years ago but didn’t provide any home video release to complement their manga release.
Originally airing in 2003, the series was directed by Shinichi Masaki based on the series composition by Miho Maruo. Miho Shimogasa worked on the character designs with Maki Fujii and Takeo Sato serving as the chief animation directors with production done at Ashi Productions.
The Japanese cast includes Akemi Kanda as Nina Sakura, Yui Horie as Ayu Tateishi, Ayumi Furuyama as Akiho, Hiroshi Kamiya as Tetsuji Kaji, Reiko Takagi as Rio and Susumu Chiba as Hiroki Tsujiai.
The English cast includes Carrie Savage as Nina Sakura, Jennifer Sekiguchi as Ayu Tateishi, Yuri Lowenthal as Tsujiai, Jimmy Benedict as Hiroki Tsujiai, Lorelei Hill Butters as Akiho and Rafael Antonio as Tetsuji Kaji.
Plot concept: Nina Sakura, a young clumsy witch, from the Magic Kingdom is a candidate for Princess. She travels to Earth to collect the five Holy Stones required for her to win, competing with her childhood friend, Maya Orihara. On Earth, she meets Ayu Tateishi who discovers her magical powers and who eventually becomes her best friend. They continue their friendship as Ayu further learns about Ninas’ mission as well as making new friends along the way -Kaji Tetsushi and Tsujiai Hiroki. Finally, she collects the five Holy Stones however facing a dilemma…
