What They Say:
Most cats have nine lives, but the fates of billions rest on this feline.

In the far future, a military-industrial complex reigns over all humanity and actively destroys distant alien worlds. The galaxy’s only hope can be found through an unlikely pair: an astral-projecting cat named Lou and his loving owner Kiara. Trading nine lives for the well-being of billions, their revolt is a battle for love, friendship, compassion, and the soul of humanity.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Humanity has reached the final frontier and began their conquest of the Galaxy. They are taking over planets, making the inhabitants slaves and taking all the valuable resources. They do so with the help of a cat, Lou, who has astral projections powers and looks for planets that benefit the industrial field. Lou is able to communicate simple phrases due to an invention created by Dr. Kiara Rodriguez and is also Lou’s owner. Kiara wishes to do what is right but is burdened by her love for Lou and will turn the other cheek and will do what she can to protect him even if it comes at the destruction of billions of lifeforms.

This issue paints a great image of setting up a universe and I want to see more from a regular human perspective. I do feel that this issue is trying to tell a story too fast and is not letting in some moments sink in. I wanted to know more about the aliens of the planet that the humans take over but they don’t give them any traits and I couldn’t care when they were being slaughtered. I hope issue 2 takes the time to slow down and fully fleshed out the universe that is being created here.

Lou starts off being complacent towards the status quo and enjoys spending time with Kiara. As this story moves forward, Lou shows signs of progressing towards human ideals and morals as he begins to question what is right and wrong as he witnesses what humanity does towards the inhabitants of other planets. He does show simple emotions as he wants to spend time with Kiara and please the humans with his power. Lou makes for a good central character to focus the story on.

In Summary:

This issue does a fantastic job at creating the universe where humans are powerful but I don’t feel it goes deep enough to demonstrate that world. I am curious as to see a little bit of how the rest of humanity is performing in this world. I am intrigued in seeing Lou being personified to be a human and yet still be a cat.
