Can someone familiar with Netflix get them to stop using the word anime where it doesn’t belong? Yes, it can also mean animation in general, but when you’re focusing on a North American market with a property like this, it’s not “anime.” Decades later and we’re still having the same stupid discussions.
Anyway, in what could be a whole lot of fun for fans of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, Netflix has announced a limited run series that will pick up where the previous show left off and do new things while resolving other storylines left unfinished. The project has Kevin Smith on board as executive producer and showrunner for this new original work.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” said Smith. “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
The writing team will include Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering) and Marc Bernardin (Alphas). Animation for the series is being done by Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania).
Plot Concept: A limited series which focuses on the unresolved storylines of the classic series, picking up many of the characters’ journeys where they left off decades ago.
