It looks like we’re going to be heading back into The Matrix as it’s being reported that a fourth film will begin production. With plans set to begin in 2020 with a premiere date to be set later, it’ll be written and directed by Lana Wachowski with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” said Emmerich. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

There’s been a push for this the last few years out of Warner Bros. and it’s no surprise as the original trilogy did $1.6 billion twenty years ago worldwide. The potential now, especially with Keanu Reeves even more popular in many ways, is huge. Additionally, you can see the new WarnerMedia group looking at potential ways to expand film into their streaming service as well that launches next year and I would not be surprised at some sort of TV component, or even possibly a new anime component ala Animatrix.
