“Exploring the Island”

What They Say:
No shelter, no food, no water… when four girls get shipwrecked on a deserted island, they’re in big trouble! …Or so you’d think, but they’re actually doing great! They don’t have anything, so they’ll make what they need to! They’ll eat what they need to! It’s a deserted island story of intelligence and courage!

The first half of the series has done a solid job of introducing the four young women to the island they now reside on and the things they have to do to survive. Homare has been leading that overall since she has the experience but as time has gone on they’ve all been picking up tricks of surviving more and more and they’re getting the hang of it. But it has been a bit now and with no sign of impending rescue, it makes sense to get more of an idea of what the rest of the island is like, especially if they’re stuck into a couple of seasons and the weather changes a lot. That has Homare having to pick who to go with since they can’t leave anyone by themselves and that has all three of them competing to go with her since she’s the best at surviving.

Homare and Mutsu have made a decent team overall so far and their going off together makes sense and they might even get some clues along the way as to where they are. It’s not a short trip that they’re on as it’s apparently a decent-sized island as they even camp overnight and Mutsu talks about how the other two aren’t all that prepared for survival, which the flashbacks kind of prove easily. Which is why it’s no surprise that the others followed them into the night because they couldn’t be alone. It’s an amusing if frustrating moment in show just how bad they are. The size of the island does at least offer up the idea that there’s lots of space and potential food to be had here and toward the end, they even get excited over how there might be people here already based on the crabs that they find. It’s definitely curious to see how that unfolds considering how many episodes are left.

In Summary:
With some interesting discovers possible to come with the island, Are You Lost has a pretty decent piece this time around. I like seeing the group dynamic come together as it does over the course of it as it shows who is good at what and the kinds of pairings that happen. As they explore, we get a lot of other things that can come into focus and expand the scope of the show and their world as well. It’s not going to go too far or too big overall but I like what it presents here and that kind of hope it offers as well. The show continues to be a bit of an odd duck but it grows on me more and more each time.
