Getting back into the swing of moviegoing after a year isn’t the easiest thing in the world, which sounds weird to say, but a year or so of changes like the one I’ve had means everything feels a bit weird. It’s been even weirder in that I’ve had such a light run of them at home but some of that’s owed to having the air conditioner on, which is loud and distracting when you want to get into something like this.

I did sneak one movie in this week at home that continues to be a favorite with Quantum of Solace. The film is a problematic one since it was put together amid the writer’s strike at the time and there are structural issues with it but I love the hell out of the thing for trying to do something bigger and expand on the previous film with a new organization to focus on as an opponent. Olga Kurylenko was fantastic in it as she avoided being a traditional Bond Girl much like Michelle Yeoh did and I’m always amused when I find David Harbour in older films without realizing who he was at the time. And a little more time with Giancarlo Giannini is always a delight.

This week has me looking forward to a few movies that I’ll be seeing at the theater. First, I’ve got the Hobbs & Shaw film set as my first Regal Unlimited film. I never actively sought out the Fast and Furious films when they come out but I’ve seen a lot of them and the later ones are ridiculous bits of fun that are empty-calorie movies that I can enjoy. The trailers for this one make it look like it’s even more bananas and that has me all-in on it.

I’ve also got plans to head out this week to see The Kitchen, which is based on a comic limited series and has some really great talent in it. I’m a sucker for a good 70s era style piece like this and upending expectations a bit. It may not go big or wide but it’s an easy thing to check out with the Unlimited card. Sensing a trend?

My big film to see this week is Millennium Actress which is a Fathom Event showing. I’ve never seen this on the big screen, relegated to just a DVD release for the past twenty or so years, so I’m excited to get out to see this one.
