AsianCrush Acquires ‘Twilight of the Cockroaches’ Film Streaming

The cockroaches of Saito’s apartment live in peace with their human host, who gives them lots of space to breed and plenty of leftovers to munch on.

Discotek Media previously plundered another property that has been lost to the ages with the license rescue of Twilight of the Cockroaches. The film is one that saw release originally quite a long time ago but has been out of print for what feels like at least twenty years. Discotek’s release was a DVD-only affair released on February 26th, 2019 where it’ll have the original Japanese language with English subtitles as well as the previously created English language dub. Now, they’ve rolled it over to the folks at AsianCrush in its subtitled form and in standard definition only.

Originally released in 1987, the film was written and directed by Hiroaki Yoshida with character designs by Hiroshi Kurogane. Madhouse worked on the animation for the film.

The Japanese cast includes Atsuko Asano as Naomi, Kaoru Kobayashi as Saito, Eri Watanabe as Mrs. Hosono, Ichirota Miyakawa as Ichiro, and Setsuko Karasumaru as Momoko.

The English dub was produced by Streamline pictures by Carl Macek with a cast that includes Edie Mirman, Gregory Snegoff, Kerrigan Mahan, Michael Forest, Michael Reynolds, Sam Fontana, Stephen Apostolina, Steve Kramer, and Tom Wyner.

Plot Concept: The cockroaches of Saito’s apartment live in peace with their human host, who gives them lots of space to breed and plenty of leftovers to munch on. In the midst of these high living times, Naomi and Ichiro plan to get married and start a family. But when a hard-bitten stranger roach named Hans appears with news of war with the humans across the lawn, it foretells disruption—not only of Naomi and Ichiro’s relationship but of their hive’s entire way of life.
