“A Strange Turban Shell”

What They Say:
No shelter, no food, no water… when four girls get shipwrecked on a deserted island, they’re in big trouble! …Or so you’d think, but they’re actually doing great! They don’t have anything, so they’ll make what they need to! They’ll eat what they need to! It’s a deserted island story of intelligence and courage!

Are You Lost hasn’t quite hit the right speed for me yet as it feels like it’s left a few things on the table that should have been explored more, such as a bit on the various characters’ backgrounds and a little more on how they ended here. It’s had some amusing moments in how they’re coping with the whole thing but it’s also leaning heavily on Homare and that’s making the others ess than memorable, even to the point of forgetting most of their names. We do see them starting to take things a little more seriously, such as Shion gathering a good amount of wood, but there’s also the realization that food is scarce and that they really need to come up with something since the traps could take a few days.

What we get from this is that Homare is heading into the sea to find some food for them as there are a lot of options to be had. Of course, it’s not quite that easy and all they’re able to really get are a bunch of small starfish, one of the edible kind. The survival tips we get from this and cooking it are nice but it’s not terribly rich or deep as more time is devoted to dealing with Shion feeling really blah about the whole thing. The show works through this and some other scavenging for food but mostly the back half shifts into dealing with Shion as she’s breaking down more and more and even thought she saw a ship. That just causes a spiral as the girls breakdown in the hours afterward over it, leaving Homare as the one to stand firm because of all that she’s been taught.

In Summary:
Nothing much comes of the possibility of what Shion saw but it sets the stage for everyone to keep a closer eye on her. We do see the bonds growing nicely here and Homare is understanding all of this well based n the lessons her father taught her. It’s nice to see some successes come into play with the episode after so many dangling moments of expectation that don’t get the follow through that it needs. But the earned meal at the end really does help a lot. It’s an interesting episode as it feels like we’re on the cusp of some reveals that could change the show.
