This past week has been a fairly fun week with some decent variety creeping into the mix after working through some binging shows. Two more episodes of Swamp Thing made me happy and we’ve got two left, so I’m sad on that front. We’re closing in on the final episodes for Agents Of SHIELD and I’ve got more Legion to catch up on. And this coming week has Preacher rolling out for its fourth and final season so there’s much excitement to be had there.

What I ended up starting the week off with was getting back into Dark as the second season came onto Netflix recently. I’m watching this with my youngest and it really felt like we need to rewatch the first season to reconnect well with it because it is so expansive across multiple periods of time focusing on interconnected characters. Kids in the 50’s, elderly in 2019, and everything in-between and even some post-2019 timeline material where a tragic event has occurred that has turned the world bleak. It’s a fascinating show that teases out more of its secret with each episode and as the middle season of a trilogy, there’s a lot to get excited about here with this German production.

With Epix being an add-on channel, I figured I wouldn’t see Pennyworth until it was offered for sale. The first episode, however, was brought out for Amazon Prime members as part of a deal they have with Epix to try and drive subscriptions to the channel. There were a lot of people railing against the idea of the show when it was announced but I loved the idea because Alfred has a whole history that has been touched upon in the comics over the years. Set as a 60s period piece in London, it’s wonderfully set with great costume design, fantastic locations, and lots of digital elements that really drives a particular mood. The cast is fantastic throughout and while there’s a slow start to it overall, it’s methodical and draws you in so when the action does hit, bam, it hits hard and just right. I’m also super excited as the character of Sykes is played by Paloma Faith, a British musician whose works I fell in love with years and years ago.

The great Star Trek: Discovery rewatch of season two is still underway with my significant other after burning through it all myself. I like revisiting this show after binging since you see more of the connections and can also just enjoy the performances. I’m still loving Anson Mount as Pike and the episodes we did took us through the Talos IV installment where they reconnected us back with the original pilot and what went down there. The show has plenty of detractors and I totally understand why but this series just clicks so well for me – especially the further it went in the first season from the very rough and problematic pilot. Everything since has done a strong job of building the foundation that has lead to such an exciting second season.

I haven’t gotten far on this one yet but the second season of the Canadian series Working Moms has finally hit Netflix. It’s definitely working a delayed arrival from its broadcast a couple of years ago but I continue to enjoy series like this since we’ve seen the exact thing done (with obvious tweaks) out of male actors/writers/comedians over the years and I like the way it gets skewed and skewered with women taking on the roles. They’re short 20 minute or so episodes but are great ways to close out my nights with a laugh.

I’m finally in the fourth season of Scott and Bailey and closing in on the halfway mark as everything continues to change for all involved. The show delivers some strong police procedural stuff but keeps it feeling fresh and interesting with some neat twists along the way that keep my guessing. This season sticks to the eight episode run but the final season is only three episodes so I’m looking forward to wrapping this all up in the next week or so. Then it’s probably off to the Hulu sequel series for Das Boot.
