‘Robotech’ & Original Series Get VUDU Distribution

2 min read

RobotechThe Robotech series is now getting a new streaming distributor through VUDU as the property is getting some new expansion. The 85-episode series is one that has been passed around a few licensors over the years for various means of distribution so longtime fans may not really make much of this. But this time around we also get the three core series available for streaming which is definitely welcome as well.

As I’ve said before, the property is one that got me into anime in the first place back in the early 80′s and there is a wealth of material that you can draw from here to make it real – and right when it comes to a live-action adaptation. But as we’ve seen with other adaptations of anime into live action, particularly from those that never got off the ground, the intentions are right but the way they do it leaves the project essentially a shadow of the original and often too different for fans to get behind in any significant way. Here’s hoping that folks discover the anime series and that Sony figures out a live-action path for it.

Series premise: In 1999, an alien ship crashes on South Atalia Island and makes the human race aware of other life in space. Ten years later, the ship is reconstructed and christened as the SDF-1 Macross. However, on the day of its maiden voyage, an alien race called the Zentraedi make their appearance on Earth, beginning the UN Spacy/Zentraedi war that would change the history of both races forever.
