Nozomi Entertainment has revealed at Anime Expo that they’ve acquired the rights to the out-of-print release of AD Police from its TV series incarnation. The distributor is looking at a 2020 release plan for the show. The series was previously licensed and released by ADV Films while the earlier OVA series is licensed by AnimEigo.
Originally airing in the spring 1999 season, the series was directed by Hidehito Ueda with character designs by Naoyuki Konno. AIC handled the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Susumu Chiba as Kenji Sasaki, Takumi Yamazaki as Hans Kleif, Ayako Kawasumi as Kyoko Miyano, Chiharu Tezuka as Karen Jordan, and Kōji Ishii as Jose Collins. The English cast includes Jason Douglas as Hans Kleif, Randy Sparks as Kenji Sasaki, C. Markham Anderson as Jose Collins, Christine M. Auten as Karen Jordan, and Rozie Curtis as Kyoko Miyano.
Plot Concept: Set a few years before Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, A.D. Police chronicles the tales of Mega-Tokyo’s special police division designed to control rogue Boomers in the city. A.D. Police Officer Kenji Sasaki faces a major dilemma: he loses another partner to a rabid boomer. A day after he’s sent off-duty, he receives a new partner in the form of German cop Hans Kleif. Funny thing is that Kenji sucker-punched Hans at a bar the night before. Not only does Kenji face the everyday task of controlling Boomers, he has to learn to adjust with his new partner.
