While the second film didn’t live up to the first for me in a lot of ways, the Pacific Rim world is one that I definitely want to explore more of and we learned last December that Netflix was in on that. They secured the rights to an animated TV series that had been talked about for awhile at that point. Now, over Anime Expo, it was revealed that the show is planned for a two-season run at a minimum with the first season set for 2020 debut.
“[This is] one of the biggest budget anime series I’ve had the pleasure of working on, and I think that speaks to the commitment of Netflix and Legendary [to anime]” said Legendary Entertainment’s executive vice president of brand development and consumer products, Elie Dekel.
It’s being listed as an anime series that has Legendary Entertainment listed as the production company who will be working with Polygon Pictures. The series will expand upon the story of the first two live-action movies and follow two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.
Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson are listed as the showrunners for it.
