What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

The second season of Chi’s Sweet Adventure draws to a close with this episode, which is unfortunate since I had hoped that it would run as long as the first, which was twice this. This season has shown a lot of expansion of ideas and style with the stories in what they’ve been doing, enough so that you probably didn’t have Chi in at least a third of them as it focused on Come-Come’s story and adventure. That showed some great growth in an area where you might not think a series like this would really have any. With this being a kids show as well it can be risky to essentially take your main character out of rotation for a while.
So it’s no surprise that this final episode brings us back to Chi in full and home with her family. She’s having fun playing about in the house and just doing her own thing when she sees Mom getting ready to prepare a big fish dinner. Which means Chi has to be all paws-on with it, at least until Mom freaks out enough to boot her and that means a journey to Dad’s office to bring sunshine and smiles. Which is needed as Dad’s having a really rough work day there and Chi interprets his anger as a game. Kittens are wonders! Chi also does some good stuff with Yohei who was struggling with his athletic side and all of it are things that she did in that way of just being herself, not actively trying to help. It’s a little simple but it’s the kind of silly and fun positive message that works in a show like this.
In Summary:
I’ve loved Chi for what feels like forever through multiple forms and this one is no exception. I know some folks struggle with the CG aspect but it works really well in this context and these characters and it just left me smiling the majority of the time. This episode rounds things out well by showing the joy Chi brings into their lives, sometimes unknowingly, but it also just goes for the easy gags in a good way here, such as the little party that the family throws for Chi and her feline friends. Simple and cute but totally Chi and totally delightful. I’m glad that while I didn’t get to see this during its original run I was able to take it in a leisurely way for a while and enjoy some little doses of Chi each and every week. It’s going to feel empty without her in my life.
