Fandom Post Presents: The E3 2019 Recap
The Electronic Entertainment Expo is at a crossroads. Sony very publicly announced they wouldn’t be attending this year and that put the whole conference under a shadow of uncertainty. In 2019 is there a place for an industry expo when the promotional cycle of games has shifted so firmly back toward the developers and out of the hands of third-party media outlets?
Would there even be an E3 2020? (Spoilers: Yes, they’ve announced there will be one next year.)
In the end, it didn’t matter so much that Sony wasn’t there. The third-party game that traditionally would have been showcased at their conference shifted back over to one of the three other press conferences.
The one thing that remains true, year in and out, is that E3 is one leaky party boat. In the past, the leaks have come from retailers (Walmart Canada, we remember what you did) or folks straight up sneaking into presentation practice runs. This year the leaks came from the developers themselves, and the E3 website. Larian and Bandai Namco made a few large internet backend mistakes and accidentally let their biggest surprises out of the bag early.
That didn’t lessen the hype though!
It’s impossible for one article to cover all of the announcements and news from the show, so I’ll focus on the notable Newly Announced, Updates and Remasters, and the No Shows.
