What They Say
Touma Kamijou’s life is one of perpetual misfortune, which is why no one is more surprised by his sudden stroke of luck than Touma himself! Having won a trip for two to Venice, the City of Water, Touma and Index are excited about a European excursion. But the Italian peninsula is the home of the Roman Orthodox Church, and when old friends and foes alike show up, Touma’s hopes for a relaxing getaway might just get washed away!
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Somehow Touma won a terrific paid vacation to Italy. Specifically, the trip is to Venice, which is home territory for the Roman Orthodox Church. If Touma was really lucky, it would have been to a country that was neutral territory between the warring factions of the Christian churches.
Initially, things seem to be going smoother than Touma had hoped. Index can speak Italian and the city is a fun touristy place. But that all changes when they stumble across Orsola! Things quickly spiral out of control given that Orsola is in Venice with the Amakusa cleaning out her old apartment now that she has defected to the Church of England. The Roman Orthodox Church isn’t going to idly stand by and watch Orsola come and go as she pleases. But when their assassination attempt fails, kidnapping Orsola and Touma works just as well.
This lands these two smack in the middle of a massive campaign by the Roman Orthodox Church to pull Venice fully under their control. It also reignites the battle between the Amakusa and the Church, only on new ground in Italy. Will Touma and Orsola be able to learn the Church’s masterplan before they try to escape from the Church’s flotilla of magical ships?
This new volume may be the first in a new story arc, but it isn’t taking any time off to smell the roses around Venice. This new arc only needs to chapters to back into the fighting between Christian factions with Touma and Index right back in the middle of it all. Things kick off the Queen’s Fleet battle. This magical group of ships is hell-bent on attacking the City of Venice, but why?
