‘Swamp Thing’ Canceled

2 min read
Well, that's disappointing.

Last week saw the debut of the Swamp Thing series on the DC Universe streaming service and… it’s now canceled. The project was reduced from 13 to 10 episodes after cost overruns due to it being a water-based series and now word is that the DC Universe service as a whole is being re-evaluated after AT&T acquired Time Warner and WarnerMedia looks toward a streaming platform of their own for next year.

Additional reporting coming out of some areas indicates that there were problems with North Carolina as well. Some sources are saying that because of errors in the filing of tax rebates previously, the $40 million incentive that they were supposed to get ended up being $13.1 million, making it an unviable project.

The project has Mark Verheiden writing it with Gary Dauberman and both will serve as executive producers as well.

The cast includes Crystal Reed as Abigal Arcane, Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Derek Mears as Swamp thing, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, Will Patton as Avery Sunderland, Henderson Wade as Matt Cable, Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue, Leonardo Nam as Harland Edwards, Ian Ziergin as Blue Devil, and Adrienne Barbeau.

The production for this comes from the Atomic Monster folks, which is James Wan’s company, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Plot Concept: Swamp Thing centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all!
