Come-Come’s Answer

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

Watching as Come-Come realizes what kind of life he had, what kind of life he can have, and what he had issues with when it came to White-White has been interesting. Though things went rough for him and Diplo in their journey with a fight that nearly landed Diplo dead, he’s now in this place where his past and his future are going more fully in different directions. The cold open plays with that in a big way as we get Mami showing up with him all excited to see her since she represents a home but he also sees Chi and wants to play with her. Having Chi turn into White-White, however, is wonderfully spot on because so much of why he’s in all of this is because of how things went down with his sibling.

Diplo knows it’s his time to move on but he can sense that Come-Come will be really happy here and does tell him this in his own way, which works nicely. I like how Diplo handles all of this diplomatically much how I like how Mami interacts with Come-Come in domesticating him a bit, such as putting a collar on him and getting him a new fluffy bed/basket. It’s fun understanding Come-Come’s resistance to it simply because he’s a cat of his own mind and not one just to do things that others tell him. But it’s also a moment where he realizes that he really can’t stay here as he has to go back to White-White, knowing what he knows now, and carving out his life there. Unfortunately, Diplo has already left and Mami isn’t exactly quick to let him go, though she handles it far better than I expected considering how well she bonded with him so quickly.

In Summary:
Sadly, things are “fixed” far too quickly for my tastes in how Come-Come is brought back to our familiar home and Chi herself. I really enjoyed the journey that took him far away and a return journey wasn’t in the cards because of the shortness of this season. But it is welcome to bring the two of them back and to have Diplo introduced to Chi, though that left me wanting him to be introduced to Blackie just to see Blackie’s reaction. Diplo has been good for Come-Come, right down to getting him to follow through on seeing White-White and resolving the issues that he has. Come-Come’s arc overall has been fantastic and while it has a rushed finishing moment with Chi, the big picture was strong. Stronger than I expected with this series.
