Library War DVD CoverThe folks at Discotek Media have found some additional distribution for one of their catalog series with the 2015 pickup of the Library War series. Amazon has brought out the full thirteen episode run where it’s free to view for Amazon Prime members. They are not currently offering it for individual episode purchase or season purchase. It’s available in its original Japanese lanugage only as no dub was produced for it.

The show aired in the spring of 2008 and produced an OVA and a movie after that. Discotek released is in its original Japanese language with English subtitles only as a complete collection last year. The series was directed by Hamana Takayuki based on scripts by Kenji Konuta and character designs by Satoru Nakamura, who also served as the animation director. The property is based on the light novel series by Hiro Arikawa that ran for four volumes between 2006 and 2007. A fifteen-volume manga adaptation with artwork by Kiir Yumi started in late 2007 and ran until February 2015.

Plot concept: Toshokan Sensou tells the story of Kasahara Iku, the first woman to join the Library Task Force. In the near future in Japan, the Media Enhancement Law has been forced upon the population censoring all books and media. To counter this, the Library Defense Force was created. To protect themselves against the Media Enhancement Law Commission, all major libraries are fully equipped with a military Task Force, who take it upon themselves to protect the books and freedom of media of the people. This anime follows Iku and her fellow soldiers as they protect various special books and artifacts from the oppression of the Media Enhancement Law Commission. A love story, war story, and comedy all rolled into one.
