The license acquisition that won the weekend.

Discotek Media has picked up the rights to bring out the winter 2017 anime series Kemono Friends on Blu-ray. The distributor will be setting dates soon as they’re waiting on Japanese approvals. It’ll bring us the first season in native HD with an all-new English dub being produced by Sound Cadence as directed by Marissa Lenti. They’re expecting to reveal the cast by Otakon. The set will have a number of extras from bios, bloopers, commentary tracks, behind the scenes material and more.

The first season of the series was directed by TATSUKI based on the scripts he co-wrote with Shigenori Tanabe. The character designs were done by Mine Yoshizaki, the creator behind Sgt. Frog, and it’s being animated at Yaoyorozu.

The Japanese cast includes Yuka Ozaki as Serval, Kana Motomiya as Fennec, Saki Ono as Common Raccoon, Aya Uchida as Kaban, Mikoi Sasaki as Royal Penguin, Ruka Nemoto as Emperor Penguin, Kyōka Tamura as Gentoo Penguin, Aina Aiba as Rockhopper Penguin, Ikuko Chikuta as Humboldt Penguin, Mami Yamashita Margay, Haruka Terui as Hippopotamus and Miyuhan as Sand Cat.

Plot concept: The anime’s story takes place in Japari Park, a “gigantic integrated zoo.” In the zoo, due to the mysterious “sand star” substance, the animals start turning into human-shaped creatures called Animal Girls. Japari Park is a place where many people visit and have fun at, but one day a lost child wanders into the park. The lost child starts a journey to return, but because so many Animal Girls join in on the quest it becomes an unexpected grand adventure.
