What They Say
Once, Foster was a young revolutionary. His days were filled money and wine, while his nights were filled with the most beautiful women in Europe.

Now, fallen and disgraced, Foster is taken in by a railroad tycoon named Dred Burton. This powerful businessman has some bitter connection to Foster’s past, but he still gives the young man a new life.

Training high class prostitutes for Mr. Dread, Foster tries to piece together his shattered past and lost love. One by one, girls are added to his household. The clumsy Leese, the eager Aya, the innocent Ren, and the dignified Clair all must submit to Foster’s training, and serve Dred’s strange ambitions.

The Review!
Audio:
The audio presentation for this release brings us the original Japanese language track in stereo along with the English language dub, both of which are encoded at 192kbps. The property features a pretty basic stereo mix with most everything being center channel oriented. Dialogue is pretty clean and easy to understand and the music uses the forward soundstage adequately. Hentai titles generally don’t have outstanding soundtracks, so there’s not a lot to really expect here.

Video:
Originally released between 1998 and early 2000, the transfer for this OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. Produced by Discovery, this is a pretty good looking release that sows off the colors of the animation quite nicely. The animation itself though sometimes gets really… well, cartoony and oddly layered, giving the show a weird feel. Some of those layered scenes show a decent amount of grain in the background as well. Cross coloration is pretty minimal but some of the medium range shots show some shimmering in the faces in their line work.

Packaging:
The packaging design for the release brings us a standard sized DVD case to hold the single disc. The front cover is definitely an attractive piece of artwork and one that’s set to capitalize on the mainstream “maid craze” seems to have an ebb and flow to it in terms of popularity. Of course, the maid craze probably really started in the hentai world to begin with. The back cover provides a number of shots from the show and a summary of things. features are cleanly listed though I really don’t care for it being listed as uncensored when an entire episode is gone. It’s technically accurate but still. The insert provides a listing of the four episodes and the chapter stops for them.

Menus:
A very basic menu system, as there’s only episodes, language and trailers here. The main menu is just one very simple static page with no music and not much in the way of artwork either. Moving around to the selections is nice and fast and the layout is decent if basic.

Extras:
None.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Originally known as Kara no Naka no Kotori, the show was an early release from Kitty Media that was coming at a time when there was a lot of caution about just how far you’d go with hentai releases considering the different views between Japan and the US. I’ll admit it right up front that a large part of my problem with this show is just the knowledge that out of the five episodes made, only four are here, with the second episode being completely eliminated. While it was supposedly cut due to the woman who is the focus of it appearing too young, I have to wonder what impact it has on the story, since there is something of one being told here.

The story is pretty simple. Former revolutionary Foster is hired by Dred Burton, a European railroad tycoon. Burton has a maid that he wants properly trained and Foster has something of a reputation for that in the past. Foster’s hesitant to do so, especially for someone like Burton, but upon meeting the girl named Claire, he finds himself unable to resist. And with that, Foster finds himself involved with just about every maid in the house and with a woman he brings “home” with him one night. Each of the women become enthralled with him as he trains them properly in the ways of an adult woman and proper service to the client that comes by to see the old railroad tycoon.

There’s a storyline running below the surface in places about a woman from Fosters past who may have been the mother of one of the girls and involved with Burton in some way, but it doesn’t come into play for the most part until closer to the end. But then again, with an entire episode cut, maybe I’m missing stuff there. The overall look and feel of the show is decent, with the female character designs being pretty nicely done and probably receiving most of the attention. The rest of the show is a mixed bag in decent to poor with backgrounds and how the characters interact with said backgrounds. It’s something of a bondage-light kind of show and features a dungeon, but it’s not really hardcore as far as my mind classifies it.

In Summary:
I really can’t bring myself to recommend this title at all. Between the massive cut and the 50$ price tag for four episodes of mediocre hentai, there’s not a lot to make it stand out beyond the fact its got maids. But if that does it for you, then this title will probably work. Pulling this one out of my collection to poke at again years later was a good reminder of just how bad things were once upon a time in how hentai anime would come out, and edits that were made to other more mainstream shows as well. The whole industry has come a long way and it does put some of the minor issues of today into context nicely from a time when we wouldn’t get full shows or things edited in small and subtle ways as well. The series does have a sequel which was released as Maiden of Deliverance which Kitty also brought out.
