“Come-Come Climbs A Mountain”

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

Come-Come’s journey the last time around really hit a sweet spot for me in that it allowed the show to shake things up a bit, much more so than its flights of fancy and silliness that it’s employed a few times. Here, Come-Come is in a really new position and place with choices ahead of him that will define how the rest of his life goes. With so much going on for him since discovering his sibling and seeing what the life he could have had was like, it does leave you kind of wanting him to take this chance and really strike out and live on his own terms in this way, even if the other part of you want him to return to the family that he’s found in Chi and the rest.

With Come-Come signing up with him for the moment, since he finds him to be pretty cool, he is getting introduced to a bigger world than the park and how close everything was. The wide open spaces, the sky, it’s all appealing to him as he’s being introduced to what the world is. That has them climbing up a “small” mountain nearby with Diplo trying to explain his style of traveling and how you have to “feel” things, which isn’t how Come-Come operates. Come-Come does get a nice little bit of an education along the way in some of what it takes to survive but his stubbornness also costs him since it is a long journey and breaks are worth taking. His education overall is employed in a similar manner to how Blackie taught him but with a little more letting Come-Come make some mistakes and a kind of playfulness out of Diplo that Come-Come doesn’t expect, which makes it all the more delightful.

In Summary:
The buddy-buddy road trip moves along well here and delivers up some really great material. Come-Come has always been a little hit or miss in some ways with how the show has dealt with him but putting him in this position really works well and Diplo is a great companion to tie him to for a little while as there are similarities to others but also plenty that’s unique as well. While it’s not an easy life it is one that very much seems like it’s an ideal one for Come-Come after what he’s been through and what he needs in the here and now. I’m definitely curious to see how far it’ll all actually go, though I know we’ll be cycling back to Chi and her adventures before we know it.
