With a lot of adaptations around the world years ago, the Yama Nezumi Rocky Chuck series, better known as Fables of the Green Forest, is getting a Blu-ray release in Japan. With it out in a few weeks we now have a look at the main cover for it that looks very cleaned up and appealing and I suspect will hit the nostalgia button for a lot of fans in Japan. Listed as an HD remaster from 35mm negatives and apparently getting a rebroadcast recently, the set is scheduled for an April 26th, 2019 debut priced at 24,000 yen for the 52-episode series. The set is listed as two BD50 releases with mono PCM audio to hold the show that doesn’t look like it hs any extras at the moment.
Originally airing in 1973, The series was directed by Masaharu Endo based on the series composition by Yuji Tano. Yasuji Mori handled the character designs while Nippon Animation handled the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Eiko Masuyama as Polly, Yūji Yamaga as Rocky, Ichirō Nagai as Peter, Isamu Tanonaka as Chatara, Kōichi Kitamura as Rocky’s Father, Kouji Yada as Bob, Reiko Seno as Rocky’s Mother, Shun Yashiro as Sammy, Kei Tomiyama as Red, Keiko Kuge as Granny, Kousei Tomita as Buster, Miyoko Asou as Narrator, Osamu Katō as Jimmy, Sanji Hase as Bobby, and Yasuo Yamada as Joe.
Plot Concept: Various stories about a group of animals that live together in a forest. The stories are adaptations from the many children’s books written by Thornton W. Burgess.
