As North American fans can pick up the DVD/BD release of the Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 property this week, there’s new movement afoot back in Japan. The final chapter had its final screening and it announced that a new sequel has been green-lit. Of course, no details came out of that announcement so we don’t know if it’s more of this theatrical recut for TV approach or something else entirely. But more Yamato is definitely a good thing.

The show was directed by Nobuyushi Habara based on the series composition by Harutoshi Fukui. Nobuteru Yuki handled the character designs with Xebec handling the animation production.

The leading Japanese cast includes Daisuke Ono as Susumu Kodai, Houko Kuwashima as Yuki Mori, and Kenichi Suzumura as Daisuke Shima while the leading English cast includes Christopher Wehkamp as Susumu Kodai, Mallorie Rodak as Yuki Mori, and Ricco Fajardo as Daisuke Shima.

Plot Concept: It’s been three years since the Yamato’s voyage to restore Earth, and since then, a lasting peace with the Gamilans has borne fruit. Due to Earth’s newly acquired technological might, humankind has begun a military expansion. However, Gatlantis, a new threat lurking far beyond our star system, will once again put humanity to the test. Responding to a mysterious plea, the Yamato and its crew must undertake one more mission for the good of their species and of the universe itself.
