An anime film inspired by the Buddhist work Tannishō o Hiraku is coming up on May 24th, 2019, which has been a bit under the radar for a bit. Details were slim on the project but it was initially revealed to include Koji Ishizaka as Shinran and Toshiki Masuda as Yuein. Now, the site has updated to reveal more of the cast with:

  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Sōken
  • Rina Honnizumi as Asa
  • Mitsuhiro Ichiki as Gonpachi
  • Shinichiro Miki as Keishinbō
  • Yusuke Shirai as Tōnen
  • Kentaro Ito as Meihōbō

It’s being directed by Kazuhisa Ouno based on the screenplay by Kiyoto Wada.

The book comes from Kentetsu Takamori, who is similar to other “new religions” that have popped up such as Happy Science, so we do want to put that there for those that are wary of such works.

Check out the official site and Twitter.

Plot Concept: Yuien, a troubled young man, meets the Buddhist monk Shinran and listens to his teachings. Shinran takes him on as his disciple, and they travel together, with experiences both joyous and heartbreaking awaiting them on the road.
