Marvel Studios is still cagey about any information about releases coming after Avengers: Endgame but things have been moving forward for the Black Widow standalone film for some time. The latest bit of information that has surfaced is that Florence Pugh is in talks to join the film opposite Scarlett Johansson. Pugh can currently be seen in Fighting With My Family and was seen recently in the espionage property The Little Drummer Girl on AMC. No details about her role within the film have been revealed, which isn’t a surprise as Marvel still isn’t talking about it or anything else post-Endgame just yet.
We learned previously that Cate Shortland has signed on for the project after working on the Nazi drama film Lore previously. The Australian director doesn’t have a huge slate of films in her list but it factors into how Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige have worked previously when exploring projects like this, often to great success.
The screenplay has Jac Shaeffer turning in the most recent script for it and is supposed takes place before the events of the first Avengers film back in 2012.
