There’s a certain frustrating nature to watching American TV versus anime when it comes to predictability and structure. You get skip weeks, skip months sometimes, and times where it just feels dead or uncertain as to when a show is coming back as they try to spread a 22-24 episode run out over nine months or so. Add in things like sweeps weeks and saving big episodes for them to capitalize on advertising rates and it can be a bit of a whiplash.

And then add in that there are things I don’t get to watch unless I have my kids with me as we binge shows together, well, that just adds its own layer to it. This past week had me working through some stuff with them such as taking in more episodes of Umbrella Academy but still having two more to go – and two weeks before I can finish it off. That show continues to delight in just about every way and I can’t get enough of it as I’m already looking forward to a rewatch in a shorter amount of time.

Similarly, we caught up on three more episodes of Deadly Class and continue to find that show just as exciting and fun in a different way, making me really enjoy the whole experience. The soundtrack for both shows are great and I love the mix of characters, the action, and the teases of bigger events.

I had a zero-content week for Netflix this past week as I didn’t want to start anything new after wrapping up a few things as my focus for the new week is to dig into more Parts Unknown after getting just the South Korea installment in recently. I’ve got something like thirty of them recorded still and have some progress to make!

The week was pretty much made up of the familiar outside of all of this, however, with some fun HGTV shows, a couple of sitcoms that work well for me, and a drama or two like Arrow where they introduced Adrian Paul as the supposed big bad of the final run of the season.

On the backlist side of things, I did finish off Farscape recently and really enjoyed that experience while hoping for some sort of attempt at relaunching it someday. My current show that I’m digging back into is Westworld with its first season, but it’s probably the worst show to background watch since it’s so layered and connected. But taking it as dreamlike snippets and seeing what connects is interesting.
