Discotek Media is taking us back just over a decade with a new pickup that flew under the radar for many with Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! The set is scheduled for an April 30th, 2019 release priced at $39.95 and it’ll be on Blu-ray in its original Japanese language with English subtitles only.

The 2007 TV series and OVA had Ryunosuke Kingetsu as writer and director with character designs by Atsushi Ogasawara. An original work, it was animated at ufotable.

The Japanese cast includes Ai Nonaka as Mika Inamori, Yui Horie as Manami Amamiya, Aya Hirano as Mei Etoh, Marina Inoue as Mutsuki Uehara, and Saki Fujita as Momoha Odori.

Plot Concept: The year is 2035, and birth rates have dropped dramatically across Japan. The drop in student population, combined with large cultural shifts, have made it so attending high school is no longer considered mandatory. Seioh Academy is no different, with student morale at an all-time low. At the start of the new term, a boisterous girl by the name of Amamiya Manami–nick-name Manabi–starts life at this new school.

Her enthusiastic passion lands her the job of student council president on her very first day of classes! Together with her classmates Mika, Mutsuki, Mei, and Momoha, will she be able to turn this school around and create the dazzling, exciting school life she’s always dreamed of?
