What They Say
When Kokone sleeps she dreams of Heartland, a place full of technology and warring machines, where she’s the Princess Ancien who possesses magical powers. But when events in her dreams and real life start to intersect, Kokone has to run from bad guys in both worlds. Will her dreams provide a way out, or get her into deeper trouble…?

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Kokone’s dilemma has gone from odd to bad. Instead of just falling asleep at random times and dreaming of another life, her father has been arrested and strange men have broken into her house!

Luckily for Kokone, her friend Morio walks in and scares off the strangers trying to rob Kokone’s house. But why would guys dressed in nice suites be robbing her house and what reason would the police have to arrest her dad? And why would they be trying to steal a broken old tablet?

Nuggets of truth slowly come out when Kokone unveils more about her mother and her grandfather. Her father never told her why they don’t talk to Kokone’s grandfather, but she must find out the truth if she hopes to rescue her dad. But before that, it takes guts and quick thinking to outwit the strangers that invaded Kokone’s home. With Morio’s help, she manages to stay one step in front of the men that plan to betray her grandfather. Will her old broken tablet be the key to everything?

In Summary:
With many manga series covering 10+ volumes, it is nice to pick up a short series. Napping Princess is a cute story with manga, anime, and novel adaptation. That means fans of every genre are covered. The heroine, Kokone, is a happy teenager, albeit a sleepy one. She is instantly likable and needs to be given the short two-volume format of this release. The fascinating aspect of this story is its discussion of the coming 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The characters behind all the mystery are trying to showcase the country as leading in technology with driverless cars on the biggest stage of the world; the country hosting the Olympics. Overall a fun story that makes me want to check out the anime.
