‘Aquaman’ Sequel Begins Development

Can lightning strike twice?

While there’s movement on a horror-ish spinoff for Aquaman while trying to get their ducks in a row with a proper sequel, said sequel is now entering more formal development. The first film, still in theaters, has raked in a massive $1.1 billion since its debut in December and a sequel was a given as it is the second highest-grossing film for Warner Bros. of all-time and the highest for their DC films side.

Hoping to court James Wan back to the director’s chair for the sequel, they’ve hired David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write the script. He’s the co-writer of the first film with Will Beall and a frequent collaborator with James Wan as well, so all the pieces are falling into place right.

Original concept: Aquaman finds himself caught between a surface world that ravages the sea and the underwater Atlanteans who are ready to revolt.
