What They Say:
It’s a peaceful day like any other in the cafe Rainy Color. Suddenly, the silence is broken when a girl kicks down the door. Her name is Amami Yoko, and she’s the daughter of the cafe’s owner, Amami Koji. The target of her ire and the cause of all the ruckus is Koji himself. Just then, she catches sight of Rainy Color’s mascot dog, Rain, and freezes. It turns out that she’s afraid of dogs! She trips over the suitcase, topples over, and shatters a vase that Koji was keeping nearby. As punishment for breaking the vase, Yoko is forced to stand in as Rainy Color’s manager for summer vacation.

You do have to laugh in that the summary for the show with its premise took three episodes to get done, which is what this episode accomplishes. With Yoko having made it back to the cafe, her dad is heading off to Hawaii for a while and he’s leaving her in charge of things here, which isn’t something she’s actually keen on. The two do have a bit of a good discussion about apologizing for things with both of them doing so before it gets into him subtly using that to get her to work the cafe while he’s gone. It’s a kind of roundabout way that he gets to it and I’ll admit that I do like Koji as we’ve seen him before, but it’s such a long path to get there with Yoko stepping up.

In Summary:
Rainy Cocoa in general is a frustrating series and they haven’t learned their lesson from past installments of the property as Side G is basically more of the same. Which is frustrating because there’s enough here to work with that you basically tell people to have zero expectations and just watch it when it’s all done in a marathon form. Yoko has some decent little moments here and I continue to like Koji but it’s taken three weeks of episodes to get the premise covered. That’s just bad storytelling.
