Originally serialized in Comic X-Eros from the January 2019 installment, Analogy is an eighteen-two-page story from creator Minagiri, who has eigh other works on the service. This marked my first experience with this particular creator and it’s one that I’m not sure I’ll return to. Minagiri succeeds where it’s most important here with the visuals as I really like the character designs and the layouts. There’s some good playfulness in the chapter that works nicely and the expressiveness of our leading lady is spot on as well. But the chapter has a very awkward setup that doesn’t feel like it established things well enough to actually work, almost to the point where you basically wish that they didn’t even try. The artwork is what manages to salvage it as it gets along.

The story focuses on a young woman named Yajima who has come to visit a coworker at his house. Having been there for an impromptu party a week or so prior, she’s just all talkative about her friend that went off with a bunch of guys at a convention, going on about how she came out of her shell once done with high school and become someone else after that. There’s a bit of envy that comes from how she sees it but it shifts to Yajima pushing herself onto Okamura a bit more intimately as they talk about work with their shifts, free time, and the kinds of things he struggles with when it comes to certain kinds of work. Her forward moments are met by his interest as he basically figured he was going to have sex with her the minute she showed up at his place unannounced.

There’s a weird dynamic to the way their interactions play out sexually that I can’t quite pin down. Essentially, Yajima is enjoying her kinks with him but won’t deal with them outright, leading him onto them a bit, such as the cat ears and the perfectly placed and functional tail. Okamura slowly does realize that she’s playing coy a little bit even as they get very intimate and it’s almost like they’re wrestling with each other on some level until Okamura just takes control and dominates the situation. Which is what throws her a bit but essentially unlocks the rest of her passions. It is amusing to see how Okamura is mentally concerned about getting enough sleep since he has the night shift the next day and there’s a lot to like in seeing Yajima shift gears toward the end as well.

In Summary
Analogy isn’t a bad chapter when you get down to what you really want out of it. It’s got some really great hentai material with interesting pieces thanks to the cat costume that isn’t your standard cat costume. Minagiri’s artwork is pretty great throughout and I love the little details and the expressiveness of the character. But in terms of actual character and giving us a setup that works, the installment falls short as it just didn’t click and come together right in those first couple of pages. The book could have gotten away without them and just been a tidied up straight into fun chapter instead and would have worked better.
