Closer but not quite.

What They Say:
It’s a peaceful day like any other in the cafe Rainy Color. Suddenly, the silence is broken when a girl kicks down the door. Her name is Amami Yoko, and she’s the daughter of the cafe’s owner, Amami Koji. The target of her ire and the cause of all the ruckus is Koji himself. Just then, she catches sight of Rainy Color’s mascot dog, Rain, and freezes. It turns out that she’s afraid of dogs! She trips over the suitcase, topples over, and shatters a vase that Koji was keeping nearby. As punishment for breaking the vase, Yoko is forced to stand in as Rainy Color’s manager for summer vacation.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
I actually liked the opening episode of Rainy Cocoa Side G but it was something that was problematic because of the pacing and how it used the two-minute running time so poorly – and that it really needs to be at least three minutes. Yoko’s frustration with the world is in full display here as all she sees are couples everywhere and that’s making her angrier and angrier. So when she does get to the cafe and chews out her father, she discovers that he’s on his way to Hawaii instead. Because of this, it’s made clear that she has to step up and take care of the place, though once again the show doesn’t actually get to that point but more of just the implied threat.

In Summary:
Yoko’s frustrations are amusing at first since she sees nothing but couples around and that’s pretty much pushing her to the edge. The confrontation with her dad is amusing since it shows his laid back way as he gets ready for Hawaii but we also see how stern he can be, which is getting us closer to having the girls take over the cafe. The show simply can’t get enough done in two-minute increments though to really make it work, which is extra frustrating as there’s a fun show to be had here if it was just able to expand a bit more.
