What They Say
Boruto’s been entrusted with the very important mission of guarding the Daimyo’s son, Tento. Babysitting a spoiled brat isn’t the type of work Boruto had in mind when he became a ninja. But perhaps these two boys are more alike than they seem…?

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Boruto is stuck guarding Tento, the Daimyo’s son. Tento is spoiled and used to getting his way, but when he asks Boruto to teach him how to be a ninja, he ends up giving it his all. Boruto realizes the two of them are both looking for approval and attention from their fathers, but now Boruto has a plan and he wants to be like Sasuke.

When Boruto realizes that Tento snuck a rare trading card into his pocket as a thank you, he decides it’s honorable to return it as he wants to work hard on his own. When he tries to do so, he learns that Tento has been kidnapped. The boss of the group Mujina is Tento’s own butler (though he’s an imposter) and the demands of the group are a lot of money and the release of a lot of prisoners.

Boruto skips out on his first B-ranked mission to go save Tento. Boruto is able to take down the low-level thugs, but when it comes to the big boss he struggles to get away and not get his brain eaten! Boruto struggles to fight the kidnapper and it takes Tento to help out for them to be victorious. Just when Boruto is about deal the final below, the small diamond mark on his hand grows to a larger a design. The kidnapper asks if Boruto is a part of a certain organization, but before Boruto could ask any questions, Sarada and Mitsuki come to the rescue.

In Summary:
It seems that I’m reading a whole different Boruto in the manga versus the anime. The storylines hardly intersect even if there is perhaps a lot of filler arcs/episodes in the anime. I’ve watched the most current episode of Boruto, which happens to be 87 at the time I’m reviewing this, and the way Boruto and Sarada find about who Mitsuki’s parent is completely different. Also, so far in the anime there has been no mention about Boruto’s mark on his hand, but it’s already leading into a new story arc in the manga. So, as a fan of the franchise, I’m left a bit confused about the vast differences in the manga and the anime. It’s not unusual for an anime with finite episodes to veer off in a different direction than the manga to make it seem complete, but this is a completely different scenario. It leads me wondering how, if ever, will the two stories align.
