A lot of fans are feeling the excitement since the announcement back in March 2018 for the City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes anime film set in the present day is in the works. It ’s set for a February 8th, 2019 release and now Aniplex Japan has brought out a new trailer for the film that also includes a nod to the Cat’s Eye trio being involved even if just briefly in the project. The film has Kenji Kodama directing it after working on past films in the franchise with the screenplay by Yoichi Kato. Kumiko Takahashi will be handling the character designs for it and confirmation of Sunrise handling the animation, which is no surprise.
Akira Kamiya will play Ryo Saeba and Kazue Ikura as Kaori Makimura. Additional cast includes Harumi Ichiryūsai as Saeko Nogami, Tesshō Genda as Umibozu, Mami Koyama as Miki, Marie Iitoyo as Ai Shindō, Kōichi Yamadera as Shinji Mikuni, Houchu Ohtsuka as Vince Englert, and Yoshimi Tokui as Conita.
The manga began back in 1985 and we’ve seen a lot of adaptations and spinoffs across a range of media since then.

Property Concept: Ryo Saeba works the streets of Tokyo as the City Hunter. He’s a “sweeper” and with his sidekick Kaori Makimura, he keeps the city clean. People hire the City Hunter to solve their dangerous problems, which he does with a Colt Python. When Ryo’s not working on a case, he’s working on getting the ladies, and Kaori must keep him in check with her trusty 10 kg hammer.
