Crunchyroll & Funimation Adds ‘Magical Girl Special Ops Asuka’ For Winter 2019 Anime Lineup

The winter 2019 anime season is getting beefed up as Crunchyroll and Funimation have announced their pickup of Makoto Fukami and Seigo Tokiya’s Magical Girl Special Ops Asuka anime. The series is set to debut on January 11th, 2019 debut on TBS in Japan and both Crunchyroll and Funimation will be streaming it. Crunchyroll has set availability for worldwide excluding Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and French, German and Russian speaking territories. Check out Crunchyroll’s official promo below.

The series is directed by Hideyo Yamamoto based on the series composition by Norimitsu Kaiho. Yoko Suzuki is handling the character designs with LIDEN FILMS producing the animation.

The Japanese cast includes Aya Suzuki as Asuka Otorii, Akira Sekine as Kurumi Mugen, Eriko Matsui as Mia Cyrus, Ayana Taketatsu as Chisato Yonamine, Chinami Hashimoto as Sayako Hata, Rie Takahashi as Nozomi Makino, M.A.O as Tamara Volkova, Yōko Hikasa as Rau Peipei, Kenji Nomura as Yoshiaki Iizuka, and Kokoro Kikuchi as Sacchū.

The series began its serialization in Big Gangan in the summer of 2015. Seven Seas has been releasing the series in English since November 28, 2017.

Plot concept: Legends, myths, magic… Humanity has finally had a chance encounter with a world that had been all but forgotten among all its scientific developments. However, this reunion is not a happy one. Monsters invading from the world of the dead render modern weapons useless, leaving the fate of humanity uncertain.
