Chi and the Goldfish

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

After slowly but surely making my way through the first series, I’m excited to dig into the second season of Chi’s Sweet Adventure. While I’m still of mind to get a more traditionally animated show I know that’s not in the cards as the target audience is responding more to this kind of material these days. And the first season did a good job handling it, giving us a fully formed cast that was well-expanded as time went on. Chi is the kind of character that just has endless potential, as any cat parent knows, and with the cast that was expanded upon throughout it there’s even more room to grow. And that’s something that I’m hoping for with this season beyond the usual enjoyable shenanigans.

This episode keeps things focused at home, which is a plus for me as time with the family is always a plus. Like a lot of cat families, when you think of bringing new things into the house you always have to think about the cat. Bringing in a goldfish? That’s prime entertainment for Chi right off the bat. And it’s not something that you can just watch over constantly, which makes the open top bowl even more surprising since Chi can just scoop right into it – which she does the minute Kento leaves the room. It’s cute watching Chi’s frustration with it and how it just drives her nuts when she can’t get what she wants. Chi’s determination to get to the goldfish dominates the episode and it’s just adorable since she’s really creative in her approach, much to the chagrin of the rest of the family – and the utter fear of the goldfish.

In Summary:
With a singular focus for most of the episode, Chi’s Sweet Adventure gets its second season off to a light start. It’s cute and silly in all the right ways with how Chi is just obsessed with the goldfish and only some mild distractions sway her from it from time to time. Her creativity is amusing and it’s understandable, as a cat family here myself, the kind of obsessive behavior that comes from having a fish in the house. With some flashes of jealousy at times as well, the show handles the addition of a new family member in some pretty cute ways throughout that keeps it quite entertaining.
